11,300,000. That is how many web pages were listed by Bing after a simple search, “memory” and “vitamins.” It would seem that many people have dedicated many hours of research to help us find ways to improve our memory. Eat enough foods with vitamin B12 in them, or omega-3 fatty acids, or maybe vitamin B6. At least that is the advice I saw on the web page summaries.
If you want some advice about not forgetting things, here is what the one who created your brain has to say: “Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.” The most important things you can remember in this lifetime are the blessings that come from our God. This week’s Psalm of the Day, Psalm 103, reminds us of this truth. It also tells us that the way to remember his blessings is to keep on praising God for these blessings.
Read through the entire psalm at home this week. Look for all the incredible things for which we can praise God: A love beyond imagining, Forgiveness that is certain and absolute, Compassion beyond that of any earthly parent. This Psalm focuses us on God’s love for us: The One Thing Needed. Read the Word. Praise the Lord. Hide these truths in your hearts so you can seek them when you need them most. Improve your important memories!
Psalm 103
Praise the LORD, O my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the LORD, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits.
