Light for Our Darkness (Dec. 24, 2022)

December 24, 2022

Series: Christmas

Before we get into the kids sharing this great news, I want to share a little message with you about this joy and what our church is all about and what it is to celebrate on Christmas.  Today you are going to hear the kids talk about how there is light in this world because of Christ.  We know that we’re really lost without Him.  We live in darkness.  If you’re out in the world and if you are any part of this world, we know that there is a lot of darkness.  There is pain and trouble and difficulty because of sin.  Because of the sins that we do, the sins that others do against us, and the sin in the world, there is death and disaster and accidents.  But we need a light.  We need something to break into that darkness to bring us joy and peace and forgiveness.  You are going to hear the kids sing about that and share the message about that.

On Christmas we remember the songs and the story.  It’s very easy to recite the story from Luke.  Many things about Christmas are memorable.  There are certain other things that are very memorable that you remember.  If you’re from the Milwaukee area, you may have heard that commercial “One call that’s all.”  You may have heard that.  My daughter right now is just all about that one.  She repeats it all the time.  We were doing a devotion the other night and we were talking about how Jesus is the one God, the one true God.  We said “There is one God, that’s all,” and she said “There is one Jesus!  That’s all!”  For us, it means so much that there is this one God, one Jesus who came down to be among us.  What does that mean?  There is hope, there is one hope for us, there is one Light.

In the Book of John, John writes that the Light of the world came to us.  There is darkness and this Light came to us.  We needed this one Light to come.  That’s all we need!  There are so many things we get distracted by, but we have this one Light, Jesus, who gives us one hope, one peace, one forgiveness.

There are many memorable things in the world.  Maybe as you hear that song again you think about the most important thing because you know with one call, that doesn’t solve everything, but with Jesus, that one God who came to be Emmanuel, the one to live among us, we do really have everything; a peace, a hope and forgiveness for all things and heaven forever.
