Do you see a familiar word in the title of this week’s devotion? Hallelu Yah are the Hebrew words that we have put together in English to make the word, Halleluiah. Now, how are your translating skills? Hallelu Yah means “praise the Lord.” This week’s psalm of the day, Psalm 150 tells us over and over to “Praise the Lord.”
The psalm says to praise him in his sanctuary and in the heavens. We are to praise God in worship, certainly, but also in every aspect of our life, that is, in the whole world.
We are to praise him because of his acts of power. Our triune God used his power to create the world and redeem the world. He did not use it to judge each of us and send us to hell as he well could have. Instead he saved us through Jesus’ life and death. He uses his power among us today to keep us in the faith.
The psalm even lists what we are to praise him with, the whole orchestra, strings, winds, and percussion. What if you don’t play an instrument? Praise God with the entirety of your life. Let every thought, word, and action be the orchestra of your praise to the God who loved you enough to save you.
Praise the Lord.
Psalm 150:1-2,6
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens
Praise him for his acts of power;
praise him for his surpassing greatness.
Let everything that has breath praise the LORD.
Praise the LORD.
