Dancing up a Storm

It’s an ongoing joke between my sister-in-law and myself when I see her at a wedding or any other place with loud music, she immediately asks me to dance. I don’t dance. I don’t dance well. I don’t dance poorly. I just don’t dance. But lately that has changed. Now when I see her, I stand behind her and act as though I am dancing. (You still really can’t call it dancing.) She sees people laugh and then spins around and sees me standing still. She accuses me of dancing. I deny it. We all laugh.

This week in worship we are reminded by our Psalm of the Day to dance where people can see it. We are encouraged to sing so people can hear it. Why? Because God has taken away the guilt of our sin. We live in the joy of Christ’s resurrection. As we live in the after effects of an empty tomb, we are changed. Now it is not about us. It is all about Jesus. We are members of his body. Parts of a body function. They serve. They do. They act. We act by serving god joyfully in whatever way he has equipped us. A member of Christ’s body functions by serving others. Our lives of service are a dance of joy lived to the glory of the One who rose.

Psalm 30:11-12

You turned my wailing into dancing…that my heart may sing to you and not be silent.
